Two Must-See Music Festivals in Coachella Valley

Two Must-See Music Festivals in Coachella Valley

It may have ‘valley’ in the name but Coachella Valley more closely resembles an oasis than anything else. With its endless palm trees, rolling golf courses, and perfect year-round weather, the area has become a world-renowned destination for Palm Springs vacations, including two of the most famous music festivals on the planet.

The Coachella Valley lies less than 30 miles from Palm Springs. Located in the heart of the Palm Desert in southern California, Coachella Valley is a sought-after destination due to its favorable conditions and beautiful backdrops. But pretty scenery and pristine climates are not the only benefits this place has to offer. Coachella Valley has a packed – and popular – event calendar.

There are countless events in Coachella Valley ranging from sports tournaments to art shows to nature-inspired activities. With something for everyone, it is no surprise that the area attracts millions of tourists per year. You could spend all year attending exciting and unique events in the Coachella Valley, but there are two music festivals that rise above the rest: Coachella and Stagecoach.

Both Coachella and Stagecoach are music festivals organized by the California-based entertainment group, Goldenvoice. While both are unforgettable experiences for any music fan and both take place here in Palm Springs, they do have significant differences.

Here’s a deeper dive into Coachella and Stagecoach – two music festivals you cannot afford to miss this year in the Coachella Valley.

A Closer Look at Coachella

Founded in 1999, Coachella has become a bucket-list festival for any music enthusiast. It is undoubtedly one of the most popular music festivals of our generation attracting 250,000 people every spring.

Coachella hosts a wide range of music genres including rock, pop, electronic, hip hop, and more. The festival’s multiple stages become a platform for countless popular artists. Headliners have included some of the most notable names in music history like Madonna, Prince, Kanye West, Beyonce, Ariana Grande, and infinite others.

In addition to the unforgettable star lineup, Coachella is famous for its festival grounds. It hosts indie inspired activities like the Field of Dreams, record shops, dining experiences, and the famous Coachella Ferris Wheel. Coachella is an out-of-world experience as much as it is a concert.

Populating those attractions are hoards of festival-goers draped in the most avant-garde bohemian fashions imaginable, like this. There is a good reason why #Coachella takes over Instagram and social media every spring as influencers and A-list celebrities trend the topic. Even those at home are exposed to Coachella content when scrolling on their smartphone.

Coachella Vacations in Palm Springs

Coachella has evolved into something greater than a music festival. It has become a movement for the millennial generation and even a platform for sustainability. The festival has pledged to do their part to leave the Coachella Valley area better each year and raise awareness about climate change, pollution, and volunteer work.

“Coachella is the perfect time for festival attendees to explore all that Greater Palm Springs has to offer, from sightseeing to shopping to hiking,” says the local site, Greater Palm Springs. “Though the festival features food booths on-site, amazing restaurants and local breweries are only a short drive away—plus pop-up shops, poolside bashes, after-parties, and other special events throughout both weekends.”

Coachella typically takes place over two, consecutive three-day weekends in April, but due to the recent COVID-19 pandemic, this year’s festival was postponed. The county and festival organizers, Goldenvoice, has confirmed the rescheduling of 2020’s festival to October 9-11 and October 16-18. Regardless of the push to autumn, Coachella is bound to become a Palm Springs vacation for many.

Mark Your Calendar for Stagecoach

Stagecoach is another notable music festival of the Coachella Valley. It is hosted at The Empire Polo Club in Indio, California. However, rather than hip hop and rock, Stagecoach is for all the country lovers out there. Presenting the top names in country music like Luke Bryan, Carrie Underwood, Tim McGraw, Kenny Chesney, and more, Stagecoach is another annual must-attend event.

Rather than attracting crowds of bohemian hippies like Coachella, Stagecoach brings out the southern belles and cowboys in its attendees. Festival-goers slip into cowboy boots and wear western inspired outfits.

Stagecoach is a smaller event than Coachella. It attracts 75,000 attendees and also typically takes place in April. However, like Coachella, Stagecoach was forced to postpone its events until October of 2020 because of COVID-19 and social distancing measures.

With cowboy hats lining the horizon, Stagecoach is an unforgettable outdoor festival for a vacation in Palm Springs. If you’re a fan of country, strap on some cowboy boots and keep an eye out for its 2020 dates.

Making a Palm Springs Vacation Out of These Music Festivals

Built-up anticipation and excitement for these two celebrated music festivals are bound to make 2020’s festival season unlike any other. These two events are already a sell-out, but we predict this year’s renditions will be extra special.

The region is accustomed to hosting the surplus of festival attendees since many camp on-site, but there are many more options for lodging like hotels and home rentals in Palm Springs. It is important to note that Coachella Valley’s rental inventory is limited. To rent for vacation, it is vital to book lodging as early as possible.

House rentals in Coachella Valley are among the first accommodations to get booked. Brands, private events, and A-list parties heighten the demand for all luxury properties in Palm Springs. If you are considering vacationing in Palm Springs for Coachella or Stagecoach this October, it is strategic to begin inquiring with properties asap.
